Building The Empire
It looks like I have not posted on this blog for a while so This might be a long update.
As my empire stands I have a lot of free blogs and a number of self hosted sites and blogs. I am going to tell you what sites I started and why, so you can have an idea of how to start your own empire.
Site one: US Travel is a huge travel site, I bit off more than I more than I can chew. I set this up with 50 subdomains, one for each state along with a social sharing section, an article submission, a forum and a travel directory. I am trying to have an all inclusive site but it is a lot of work for one person.
On the travel Site I have done some auto posts but on Camcorder HD, the auto posting covers every category. I am using multipress which is a plugin for wordpress that scans youtube for keywords that I set it up with, then it embeds the video and the summary. It can grab other types of rss feeds also but is a little glitchy with full articles. Oddly enough each page is getting indexed by the search engines, it is all duplicate content but organized together, I think they can recognize when it is all a similar topic.
I have also set up a few directories one on the travel site which is in a sub domain, it is set up like that because some directories don’t accept deep links, and I want to be able to put it in directories.
I set up Free US Directory which uses phpld a free directory script, you can do free, paid or reciprocal. It is easy to install and easy to set up. You can accept payments via paypal with it. I asked the guy at Easy Submits and the people at Directory Critic to include my directory along with submitting it to about 200 directories though easy submits. As a result it is getting a good amount of traffic, although I have captcha off so it gets some spam also.
I set up an industrial directory also but it is set up in a folder so some directories won’t accept it, it is http://industrial-websites.com/directory instead of directory.industrial-websites.com. That puts it at a slight disadvantage. That runs off of phpld also.
I have also set up a niche directory: Manufacturers Directory which is a .us domain. I got the url because it gets a good number of direct hits from google and it is a .us domain so it is targeted to US users. This directory is more complicated to set up, I used Joomla with the Sobi2 plugin. The payment options are not set up as easy as phpld or phpweby but it has a full page listing that includes, address, phone number, fax, website, products, services or you can add your own fields. This script provides a much better benefit to the business owner and the website owner in my view. They both get a lot more room for content.
Adobe CS5 just came out and I would like to get some of that traffic, Adobe has their keywords locked up in the searches but I might be able to get some traffic through long tail keywords. I set up Adobe CS5, the .com was taken so I got the .us url. I have had google index a lot of the pages in a matter of about a week, this is due to me using the google xml sitemap plugin for wordpress. I used the multipress plugin again to get some posts, all about tutorials on how to use Adobe CS5.
Each site was choosen by me researching keywords using the Google keyword tool for adwords, I looked at the number of searches along with the competition and what domains were available. If any one of the factors did not fit then I would have moved on to another topic.
I have some other sites but I think that is enough for right now.
