Picking Ad companies
When I started my blog with blogger I set up adsense. It is easy to do they approved me right away based on a blog I had started a while ago but never did anything with. I put some adsense ads on there and after about 3000 impressions I only had one click. So I was still using them but wanted to put some other companies ads on there. I learned about Amazon’s Affiliate program through hubpages. So I singed up for them and although I haven’t made any money off that yet I am increasing my clickthrough rate. They have a new setup with blogger so you can post an ad directly into your blog without every leaving blogger. Since my topic is video games I just type in the name of the game and it puts an ad in there for me.
Next I applied at a few places but since I didn’t have my own domain some refused me. Commision Junction approved me. So I started using them, they have a great program. What I do is set up a smartzone, which is a website specific ad that has a certain format and its own tracking. You can do banners or links. Once you set it up and put the code on your site you can change ads from your CJ dashboard. That is a nice feature because you can have up to 25 rotating ads and if one is not performing you can pull it. Since then I have been working on what ads fits my viewer base.
CJ is not only tracks the performance of your ads but they also track the performace of the advertisers. For example they track how much revenue is made per 1000 impressions per ad and per advertiser on average. That way you can see what ones have more successful ad creation. I would not go on that information only though because they have a lot of new advertisers and they start out with 0 stats. Pick your ads according to your fan base. Mine is gamers so you will see ads for modded controllers and high tech items along with games of course.
I have not made any money with this yet but I will let you know when I do.
